Chapter Five

~Decker~

I couldn’t believe I’d told Belle how I felt. So much for easing her into it, though admittedly, I was tired of waiting. I’d been ”easing” for too long to my recollection.

Leaping from the car, I jogged around to her side to help her out. Lifting her down, I relished the feel of her compact little body sliding along mine. Oh fuck, I needed to watch it or I’d be meeting her family for the first time while sporting a raging hard-on. I’d already been half-mast all day. I laced my fingers through hers, intent on keeping her close. After our conversation on the way here, I didn’t think she was opposed to that.

Confirming that, Belle leaned into my arm.

“Thanks for coming with me,” she murmured.

I kissed her crown. “Of course. There’s no place else I’d rather be.”

Except alone with her. Just the two of us and maybe a bed. Hopefully, that would happen soon.

“Uh-huh,” Belle laughed. “Well, anyway, I’m glad you’re here. Don’t let them scare you.”

Who exactly did she think I was?

“Belle!” everyone yelled as if we were entering the Cheers bar. We both waved as everyone stared at us, obviously waiting.

I helped her with her jacket then was slipping out of mine when Belle must have figured out the weird silence. “Oh yeah…everyone, you’ve heard me talk about Decker before. This is Decker Natale my fiancé. Decker…” She waved a arm out. “My family.”

As one they let out a gasp and surged forward like a wave. I almost took a step back, but Belle’s fingers tightened and I knew she was nervous too.

“Fiancé!” someone yelled—a woman in her fifties, I guessed, who had to be Belle’s mom. She had blonde hair the same color as Belle’s, as well as identical striking blue eyes.

“Hi Mom,” Belle said, holding out her hand to display the ring I’d put there last night. Score for Decker! Her mother peered at it, her mouth open, looked at Belle then swerved to me, crushing me in a surprise hug. I stopped a little to hug her back awkwardly since she was Belle’s height and I didn’t know her.

“Mrs. Campanello,” I greeted her.

She stepped back and swatted at me, much like her daughter often did. “None of that. Call me Mom or Gracie.”

“Better call her Mom,” an accented voice drily advised me. That would be Sasha. I might take a bit to figure out everyone else, but him I could pick out. He gave me a chin lift.

I turned my gaze back to Belle’s mother. “Okay, Mom.”

One down…

I went to put my arm around Belle but found she’d been pulled away while I’d been hug-attacked. Four women, who had to be her sisters and sisters-in law, oohed over Belle’s ring. Before I could head over there, I was surrounded by men and herded into the other room with some smacks on the back and good-natured congratulations. I didn’t doubt warnings would be forth coming.

Before they could get me to the den, which was where one of them said we were going, I was plucked from their fold by Belle’s mom.
